Master Class 10/8 LaeKin Burgess

Master Class Critiques 10/8

Brad  Summers- Brad has a very rich, deep timbre which is so pleasant to listen to. His diction was good as was his intonation. I felt like he looked down a lot during the performance and his blinking was distracting. Cindy worked with him on being authentic. As soon as he had imagery of some kind running through his mind his performance was a lot more authentic. I like how Cindy mentioned that imagery doesn't necessarily have to be something personal, it just has to bring out the right energy in the song. I thought this was really helpful.

Sarah Gee- Wow! Second time through the song made such a big difference in her voice. Sarah has such a beautiful voice. She has a very light and bright timbre that just sparkles. I think her expressiveness would match the sparkling of her voice if she wouldn't apologize for her presence. I feel like every time she gets up she shrinks to one side (the right side) a little and gets this look on her face like she feels bad for being there. She is amazing and should know that it is okay to know that inside and show it on her face. She also should know that we can't tell she made a mistake unless she lets us know. Biggest suggestions I have is confidence and release the jaw and neck, they seem really tight. When Cindy brought up availability and awareness Sarah's sound completely changed. It was more full and relaxed. I gotta try that sometime.

Sarah Brenay- You looked relaxed and your breath seemed pretty low. Your voice sounded free for the most part. You have a smooth timbre that is really nice. Your diction and timbre were both wholly acceptable but as Cindy suggested you could have more crisp and energized consonants. Doing this will (and did) help energize and direct the piece. It sounded so much cleaner when you got right on those consonants then went straight to the vowel.
