Chapter Summary: I've always been of the philosophy that a loud mistake is far better than a quiet one. In this profession you have to be fearless and willing to put yourself out there and fail. It's a reality that we all face. The distinction must be made that you do not become a failure at life because you flopped a performance. It's OK to flop a performance! How you deal with it is important however. We should learn to accept our flops honestly for what they are and chalk it up to experience. It's much harder to delude yourself than it is to accept a mistake. Once we feel that it is okay to fail than we are no longer afraid of doing so..
Key Concept: Don't be afraid of failure! Embrace it and learn from it!
Key Terms: Flop
Making Connections: I've been crippled under the fear of failure at times my whole life and I've given up many an opportunity simply on the grounds that "I might have failed so why bother?". On other occasions, though, I've learned to accept myself for who I am and just put myself out there regardless of what the outcome will be. First of all, you'll never notice mistakes if you don't make them and you won't honestly make them unless you honestly try to do something and not some half-baked, tentative approach. At least a loud, noticeable mistake can be addressed, but if you cripple yourself with fear of failure and don't even get to the point of mistake-making you've already failed before you even began.
