Luke Shepherd ER Chapter 13 Summary

Chapter Summary: The fear of performing and the nervousness experienced just before and even while performing is almost universal to performers. Our body reacts to this stress in some strange ways, shaky knees, clammy hands, and even stomach aches. There is a way, however, to use that nervous energy, that rush of adrenaline, to work for rather than against us. The stress is, after all, a response that our body is rising to the occasion and the increase in adrenaline will help us if we only let it.
Key Concept: You are your own worst enemy. Learn not to fight yourself but use your auto-stress response to give you the right kind of performance energy.
Key Terms:
Making Connections: I find that nervous energy always helps me perform. Sure it makes me feel really weird right before and even while being on stage initially, but it always feel different once I really get into performing. I thrive off of that stress response because it makes me meet the occasion. I've performed before without feeling the least bit nervous or jittery and it didn't turn out as well because I was too relaxed.
