Jared Daley TNV Chapter 5

Jared Daley TNV Chapter 5
Summary-
This chapter is all about the second invention which is Free flowing air. The goal here to have freely flowing air at any range. It all starts wit a simple sigh. We must practice relinquishing control of breath. When we breath for life there is little to no resistance to the flow of air. When we practice singing with out sound, there will be a little more resistance because the cords are partially engaged. We want the sensation of losing our breath. It helps us surrender to the flow of air. We can make a bigger sound with minimal muscular effort. It all has to do with air flow! The first phase is the downward sigh. We start in the upper falsetto voice and let our voice relax and let the air flow as we sigh down. This helps us feel how resistance free the voice should feel in the upper voice. phase two is the Siren, We go from low to high and descend again. We want that feeling of our cords being loose and flabby. We want the feeling of space being created up and back. We will learn how to have consistent breath flow and also recognize the sensation of no resistance. Phase three is the descending five tone scale. We use the highest not we reached in phase two and slide up to it from our speaking voice and then descend five tones. The point is to start with no larynx tension and keep that feeling all the way up. When the vocal folds are not pushed apart, they come together naturally with the flow of air.
Key Terms: falsetto, vocalis muscle
Key Concept: Breathing is important for life, but it seriously gets in the way of our ability to sing! Free flowing air is the key to having the sound we want. The trick is relinquishing control
Connection- For overadducted folds to vibrate, like the ones i currently own, i must force air through with immense breath pressure. That's not helpful at all.
