Emily F. ER 9: Visualizing, or imagining, our practice can be a very effective use of our time and effort. Clearly imagining or sensing what we will do before we do it can save us the strain, particularly in voice, of repeating the action. Also, this is great for myelinating, as it takes more concentration to really imagine doing something well than to just mindlessly do it.
Key concept: Make use of "feeling sense" for practicing. It's an efficient tool.
Key terms: feeling sense, imagery
Making connections:This chapter reminds me of what you've said, Cindy, in class about being the director of our voices. Forcing, or making our voice do something isn't efficient. It's much more effective and helpful to direct the voice, then observe. Additionally, we can mentally direct before we follow through, and this can help prepare us to do what we want. I think of silent singing here as well. I've been singing more lately and my voice does get tired, so using the silent approach would be good.
