Elizabeth Tait Masterclass 10.15.13

Brooke Meyers
Good things:
- Very pleasant and well placed tone, good instrument to work with
- I appreciated your willing-to-learn attitude.  You didn't seem scared to show your weaknesses and be a guinea pig for us all.  Thank you!
Things to work on:
- It seems like the instrument is so good, but it lacks precision.
- Some vowels are swallowed, I noticed especially on [i]
- I noticed a note-by-note approach, and I think it was very appropriate that Cindy asked for more flowiness.
- I notice that you reach for high notes, instead of gracefully singing them.  That's exactly what Cindy worked on with you.
Things to remember
- Ghost speaking
- notes come out of your mind into your mouth.
- Don't fix the high note, fix the lower note to facilitate singing the high note.
- Use a gracious speaking voice

Laekin Burgess
Good things:
- I liked the energy that you brought from the very beginning.  It drew me in.
- I really like the buzziness and flittiness to your tone, it's exciting.
- Your range (with the exception of that one high note) is really consistent; lower range is the same color as upper range
- YOUR HAIR LOOKS BEAUTIFUL
- This is pretty much the best I have ever heard you sing.  Congrats!
Things to work on:
- Lots of extraneous jaw movement.  Try speaking the text without moving your jaw.  I think that will achieve that last bit of freedom that you want.
- I want to see more flirtiness in your eyes.  Most of your performances look worried.
- I think that your large ascending intervals are good, but could use one last step of freedom to be magnificent.
- Put a lid on it!  Talk to Cindy about what that means, because I think that could really help you.
Things to remember
- you are improving, that is an exciting thing!

Emily Floyd:
Good things:
- Good German pronunciation, very convincing
Things to work on:
- I want immediate vowel and vibrato formation upon inception.
- I think the speaking exercise is exactly what you need.
