Caitlin Craig Masterclass October 22, 2013

Jake Spjute: I was unable to hear you sing your song because I was late coming from a coaching with Lynn, however, I heard a lot of great things happen when Cindy was working with you.  The French sounded like it was in a comfortable and resonating place.  I think that thinking of the secret unicorn horn coming out of your forehead with help you find that simple placement, and make the sound fall out in front of you.  One thing I did notice was a little bit of your head shaking during high sustaining notes.  This has improved a lot from the past, but I still see a little bit of tension there.  However, I'm unsure where that tension is originating.

Luke Shepherd: From what I saw, I thought you looked very confident in your stance, but maybe I was writing and not watching as much as I should have been :).  I was impressed with your commitment to the storytelling.  I could see the specificity in your eyes, and hear it in the inflection of your voice.  The phrasing was really meaningful.  The only complaint that I have was that I thought your vowels weren't tall enough in the beginning of your song.  Especially in the first phrase.  Overall, great work!

Laura Berg: Laura, you have fabulous resonance!  But it does fall back a lot, and switches back and forth.  I think there are a few diction problems, specifically on the word "struggio" (the two g's make a "j" sound).  And your "o" vowels had a little bit of a diphthong to them.  When Cindy helped you find the placement of the sound falling in front of you on all the notes, long or shot, your sound was truly beautiful.  You have a buoyancy to your sound that is fantastic.  Keep up the good work!
