Improvisation is one of our greatest skills, collectively, that we can draw upon. Nothing bad can happen because its what we would do in any given situation. We shouldn't feel upset if we "mess up" because as long as we are sincere in our portrayal, we can't lose. That is why improvisation can be such a vital tool in practicing whatever skill we are trying to develop. With our instrument, it builds a connection there that allows us to be ready for anything.
