Bric Slade ER Chpt. 11

Bric Slade ER Chpt. 11

The only place "should" should be, essentially, is in the practice room. We practice the "shoulds" so that we can forget we are doing them. It is a huge problem when we worry too much about what we should do. If it hasn't come, it will, as long as you practice. If you let those judges tell you during a performance what you should be doing, you are setting yourself up to coming off unnatural and unauthentic. Authenticity comes from loosening up and just doing it and trusting you have learned it the right way. Practice is a journey, and if you get caught up in the result you wont be very happy along the way.

Key terms: Authentic, Should, Trust

Key Concepts: Practice the should, perform the result, and let it at that.

Connections: I need to stop beating myself up because I am not perfect. Even in practicing I shouldn't beat myself up when I can't do something. I just need to work with what I have. If I do what I am supposed to then I am setting myself up to performing my best which is all anyone can really ask for.
