Taylee-NV ch 2

Taylee. Summary: Everyone must communicate to survive. This survival skill is usually displayed through speaking. As we grow, we learn that certain words get us certain things, and eventually we develop the skills to produce a more complex speech pattern as we explore our language more. At this point speaking is completely natural, and we no longer concern ourselves with the bio-mechanics of how we are producing our speech so efficiently. As a singer, we should strive to make our singing as effortless as our speech. This also means that we must refer to our most native tongue, which the author refers to as our vernacular speech.
Key Terms: Source of utterance. Vernacular speech.
Key Concepts: Speaking engages all aspects of our humanity.
Making Connections: For years, Brianna has been trying to get me to think of my singing as more speech like. It never seemed to click for some reason. During my lesson with Thomas Glen, however, it finally clicked!! I don't remember how he said it (because I stupidly forgot to record my lesson!), but suddenly my tone was better, my breath flowed my easily, and I felt the high, forward resonance that I was only sometimes achieving! Since then, I have made so much progress in my voice! It definitely helped me out a lot.
