Taylee - ASOHH ch. 9

Taylee. Summary: We've all heard the saying, "mind over matter", but it really is true. I think we underestimate just how miraculous the human brain really is! When we mentally in-vision ourselves clearly doing the thing want, the mind is then prepared to actually go through the motion. Those signals are still being fired, we just didn't complete those signals with a direction to the muscles to actually do them!
Key Concepts: "If we imagine sloppily, we play sloppily; if we imagine clearly and precisely, that is how we play."
Key Terms: Visualize/Feeling sense. Preplay.
Making Connections: We've all had those days when getting into a practice room is impossible. Some days I just have too many things to do and I can't devote a ton of time to actually singing. But I have found that when I've got 5 minutes in between classes, and I can't be audible, I can still practice the way I should feel when I sing. We're not suppose to have tension in the throat right? Or in our shoulders, neck, etc. So, I will think my song, and not actually sing it, so that I can ingrain that feeling of a lack of tension. Singing is suppose to feel speech like, so when I just say my words in my head, I don't get a lot of tongue tension because I'm trying to sing a tricky vowel on a high note.
