Sarah Gee Master Class Critique 10/1/13

Amber Denslow
Keep your breath and energy level consistent throughout phrase, especially when you change pitch. There were a few places where you went a little sharp in order to hit note especially noticeable on the word “came” unless that is just how the song goes. Cindy Advice: Don’t slide into Use moments of voicelessness to go above actual note. Keep a tonal center, make one up.  Don’t squeeze vowels. Practice in lower keys, this helps to solidify tonal center. As Cindy worked with you, your voice became much more clear and energy became a lot more consistent.

Wow this was a really great performance today. I think you could have started off a little stronger than you did but really nice growth in the phrases. Don’t slide through diphthongs, make vowel changes clearer. Watch to make sure you’re keeping constant energy through phrase and not letting your posture collapse. Release your jaw a little more on e and u vowels. After you worked with Cindy I felt like you were even more amazing. You had a lot more energy and drive in your phrasing and I really felt like there was a lot more emotion being conveyed. Great Job!

You seem a little tense. Great sound and good phrasing. You release a lot of air as you start to sing. Practice in different postures to free your muscles especially in your upper torso. You have improved a lot since our practice session last Thursday. You are a really hard worker. Great job, today.
