Sarah Boucher SS Chapter 6 Summary

Sarah Boucher SS Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter Summary: Balance is important in all aspects of life. In our singing we strive to find balance in creating the perfect chiaroscuro. Smith suggest an arpeggio on a ni-ne-na-no-nu to combine the speaking and free flowing air inventions that he discussed in previous chapters. This exercise is to help us find our chiaroscuro. The singer should focus on the vowels to help maintain constant airflow in this exercise.
Key Points:
-The arpeggio should be in our natural speaking range. We can not go higher or lower until we can do the exercise without any tension.
-The voice should always feel relaxed and feel constant airflow
Key Terms:
Making Connection: Once again Smith is giving me an exercise that is perfect for what I have been trying to work on this semester. I can see his logic behind this exercise and I am anxious to utilize it in the practice room. I think the hardest part of this exercise will be allowing the breath to be constantly flowing, that is a huge struggle for me!
