Introduction Summary-Many singers have tendencies that hold them back from being great singers. These can be bad habits or items of technique that although aren't harmful don't help someone become a better performer. It is, therefore, critical that we find the ability to strip away all of those habits and work with our naked voice. When we achieve this we can employ tactics of technique properly and apply them because they will bring us the desired result, not purely because someone who we trust told us we should. In the end, there is not perfect, right answer that, when applied, is effective 100% of the time. It is, therefore, critical that each singer learn what is effective for his/her voice. This authenticity in the voice brings much more satisfaction to the performer. People who have this authenticity have better careers than those who sing and purely for financial gain.
Key Concept- Each singer needs to find the approach that works best for them. Singers need to learn how to sing well in their own voice rather than just trying to imitate what other people do. This approach brings much more satisfaction and success than any other approach.
Key Terms-The Naked Voice, Authenticity
Making Connections-I need to be more aware in my practice as a singer to ensure that I am doing what is best for me and my voice. I think sometimes I fall into the trap of trying too hard to sound like someone else whose sound I think is ideal.
