Jaron Putnam Lesson Summary 10/15/2013

Today was a REALLY good lesson. Today I feel I like I finally understood two clear ways in which I can increase the resonance of my voice, by also singing easier and with less strain on the voice.

First thing I need to work on: (for this week, but probably for the next few months..)
Vowels the same. As I change to an E vowel, I need to keep the same space as an Ah vowel. How do I do this?? By using my tongue! My jaw does not need to be involved in the process of vowel change. I can keep my jaw relaxed and open and use more of my tongue to keep space. I've been told this many many times as a singer over the past few years... But I feel like I finally am starting to understand this concept the way it is supposed to be understood.

Second thing I need to work on:
Thinking of vertical space as I sing! We talked about how I don't struggle very much with horizontal space. Most of the time I am able to sing without much tension in the voice, because of this Im not working very hard to create "vertical Space" Having tracheal tug, and thinking more space in my head. We were able to make progress in this area by using physical motions. My goal will be able to create vertical space without having to show it. I am excited to work on these things for the upcoming week.
