Mariah VRH 10/3

Mariah VRH 10/3
Emily Hess
Emily had a feminine and sparkling timbre that I really liked. She also had a good balance between bright and dark. Her intonation was great except for one low note that didn't have a very full sound.  She had some high and low breaths and they didn't seem to fill up quite as much as they could. At the beginning of the song, she didn't seem to get into character until she started singing instead of right when the music started. Her expression was there at times but needed to be pushed further. She seemed to step out of character during times when only the piano was playing instead of being expressive during those times as well. Emily also tended to look down a lot which hindered the audience understanding the message of the song. Overall she had a very nice sound but could go further with her expression.
Kayelee Farris
Kayelee had a full, melodious and golden timbre and great intonation.  Her higher notes were especially full and lovely but her lower notes weren't quite as strong. Her knees looked a little too straight as if she may have had them locked and her jaw seemed a little tense. She seemed nervous and fiddled her fingers a lot throughout the performance. She could have more expression and, like Emily, her expression seemed to fade during interludes. Overall she had a very lovely sound but I didn't understand the story being told by the song.
Jared Daley
Jared had nice balloon breathing and a clear, focused timbre. The introduction of his name and song was loud enough but too fast; he did better with this on the second time. His diction was good but his jaw seemed a little tight on O vowels. His posture was straight but he was leaning forward slightly. The expression in his voice was much better the second time and was more full and powerful, but his face could still be more expressive. Overall it was a good sound, but I think his expression could be pushed further.
Elizabeth Tate
Elizabeth had very good expression and a full, beautiful sound. Her diction and intonation were also excellent. Her timbre was warm, melodious and mature. During her second time through she had quite a few high breaths or breaths that looked like they started high and then went low. Overall she had a great sound and expression; she could maybe go even further with her dynamics.
