Chapter Summary: Every person has the desire to come in contact with their authentic self. Few people actually go down the path to authenticity due to the difficulty of such a life-long pursuit of stepping outside of the bounds and breaking social norms. The author describes his life of searching for authenticity which eventually led him to his passion of teaching others to sing. Through this passion, he began to realize that the act of learning how to sing has the ability to take one on a journey of finding personal authenticity and has in turn changed many lives. Through reading this book, we will learn an approach to singing that is not definitive, yet different from others. This in turn will aid us along our own paths to authenticity.
Key Concept: Be willing to let down all of the walls that cover you up to discover who you truly are: your naked self.

Making Connections: I have had times throughout my life where I have chosen to step out of social norms in an attempt to more fully discover who I truly am. My own personal journey has led me all over the world, and now to studying the voice. I completely agree with his statement that "our voices are an expression of the deepest reaches of our soul." I look forward to learning from what he has to say to more fully express the deepness of my soul and in turn learn how to help others do the same.
