VRH Critiques 10/24
LaeKin Burgess

Elizabeth Tait - Needs more free flowing air. Her timbre is nice and bright but her air is somewhat tight in her body. Her breath sounds gaspy as she sings.

Ben Shaw- Simply speak, my friend. Sometimes Ben's sound gets a bit swallowed and he sounds like he is trying to manipulate it. If he would speak and then try to emulate the feeling of speaking in his singing it will sound more natural.

Kaylee Ann Simmons- Speak simply. There was tension in her lips and jaw that I feel would be helped if she would practice her vernacular speaking and then turn that over to singing.

Amanda Skousen- Free flowing air is needed in Amanda's singing. There were some moments of disconnect when the larynx would move upward and the voice would get airy. There is a bit of a flutter in her vibrato which makes me think there needs to be a lower connection and release.

Laura Wride: Both free flowing air and speaking would be helpful for this singer. Her air sounds pushed so she could try an easy siren to free up the air. Her vowels are also crunched and pushed which is where practicing speaking simply would help her.

Emily Cottam- Needs more free flowing air. There is some instability in her vibrato which I think would be helped by speaking very freely and then trying to emulate that feeling in her singing. Some of the breaths were also a bit gaspy.

Brad Summers: Brad would benefit from speaking simply. He tends to sound a bit swallowed and manipulates a bit with his neck and jaw. Emulating simple speaking would help him stop exerting unneeded effort to sing.

Bric Slade: Needs a little bit more of both speaking simply and free flowing air in his singing. Most vowels are fine but higher notes the vowel is a bit swallowed. He could try speaking in the higher passages, especially elongated speaking. If the air flowed freer I think he would be more comfortable and less likely to "grab" at the high notes.

Luke Shepherd- Speak. Just like what Thomas Glenn worked on with him. His voice could be more present. I think speaking will help this.

Jaron Putnum- Needs more free flowing air. Sometimes I feel like he is "holding on"  and there is some unnecessary tension. Free flowing air would help his voice be even more free.

Caitlyn Craig- Speak. There are moments when her voice is not as present as it could be and some vowels(especially in higher range) that sound "smushed" (that's the best way I can think to describe it). Free flowing air to the higher notes would help the presence in her voice.

Taylee Beckstead- Speak. The higher notes sound very covered. High notes should feel like speaking too. You do it really well on the lower notes so now just transfer that to the higher notes.

Sam Meredith: Speak. His voice sounds swallowed and covered at times. I suggest he speak a lot and keep that same feeling when he sings. Avoid pushing.
