Summary: We need to be careful what we classify as being an absolute rule. Everyone is different and what works for one won't work for another. We must be careful not to "underscore a discovery and hammer it into a rule." When we are learning, and when we are teaching we must have our minds open to being wrong even when we thought it was right. As we learn perceptions will change and new "rights" will be learned. If we are not open to that then we will end up hindering our progress.
Key Concept: Just because something works well for someone else, doesn't mean it is right for you. In the process of learning we must be willing to throw out what doesn't work for us and embrace new ideas that might be scary.
Connections: It is important to listen to your teacher but it is also okay to tell them when something isn't working for you. Brianna and I do this all of the time. We try something new and then discuss it. What works for her doesn't always work for me so we try something else. As teachers we need to be able to reach into our matrix of knowledge to present options to our students. We also need to be ready to listen to what our students are telling us works and does not work for them.
