Jaron Putnam Self Video

Jaron Putnam Self Video

http://youtu.be/iEP6FWkR_j0

This link will take you to youtube and my video!!

Positives:
-Words were understood.
-I had to check myself once... But 20th century composition, I got all of the notes right without the piano

Negatives:
-Didn't feel connected to words in this performance...
-Jaw moves a lot
-Still need more sense of a "line" on the two "high" pitches for this song- the f and the f#. It felt like I was singing low, and then singing high. Not the sense of line.
-Some of my vowels are weird... oos and others. This is new to me, and something I need to fix.
-Pitch was iffy and "under" on a lot of notes. I wasn't sitting on top of the note.

  1. Jaron, your voice is very warm and lovely to listen to. I noticed that your eyebrows tend to stay in a tense state throughout the piece (I just realized I do this too!). Maybe we can find other ways of being expressive. I did notice your jaw as well. Good job doing a Libby Larsen piece!

  2. I really enjoy the consistency and the precision with the diction. There was no trouble understanding the words of the song, which is really important. One note i have with diction, though, is that I think you moved to 'r' a little too soon on the word 'lovers' once. I think that affected the purity of the vowel. I did notice that you were under the pitch on a couple of notes, but that probably isn't as much of a problem when you are singing with accompaniment.

  3. Jaron I love your voice! Your amazing diction and consistency of tone quality astounds me. It was a bit pitchy but you got back on with no problem. You higher notes I noticed your jaw moves quite a bit. Just let it relax and practice with your hands on your jaw so you are conscious of when you do move it unnecessarily.

  4. Smooth!
I really like how you are able to express in your facial features. The diction is so nice and clean from my perspective...so articulated. I like how you seem to enjoy this song. The jaws seems a little tight, but you seem to be aware of it and catching yourself on that issues. Very nice!

  5. I've told you this before but I really appreciate how precise you are. You're intervals are very clean and accurate. Beyond that your timbre is very warm and smooth. Great diction! I would say that some of the vowels got weird, dipthongs like 'they' and 'may'.

  6. You have such a great timbre to your voice; very rich and full! You have a great sense of pitch, but I felt like you were pushing down on the sound, which prevented it from ringing in tune. Also I felt as if you haven't quite figured out your personal relationship to the piece (at least at the time you sang this).
