Jared Daley Group Practice 10/1/13
So my practice buddy is sarah, and I think this practice buddy thing is going to be great! We started out talking about what we do to begin our practice. I must confess mine is a lot less structured! I'm terrible i know. Then I asked what we felt our biggest weaknesses are and Sarah said breath. So I suggested a few things I learned from Dr Cook. I combined the "rose hum" and the pleasantly surprised breath into what I call the Diva Breath. When you do it you look like a diva, but it works! When you breath like this it really allows you to feel where the air is going and what is expanding. Sarah was able to do it successfully and she said she finally felt what a low breath is. We applied it to her german piece she sang in master class and there was immediate improvement! woo hoo! I said my greatest problem is keeping my throat open, but i guess what i should have said is getting past my brain! I've had it beat into my head that i'm a squeezy tenor so that's what i've been doing. In the practice room I allowed myself to be whatever kind of tenor i want to be. I tried to sing throaty for sarah and was unsuccessful so this led to a discussion on mental blocks. Sarah really helped guide me through my ricky ian gordon set and helped me dig deeper into who my character was and what the appropriate emotions were. Overall i enjoyed it. The time flew by.
