Elizabeth Tait ER Ch. 11 Summary

Chapter Summary: To me, this chapter communicated that no matter what is going on in your life, the language you use to speak to yourself about it makes a huge difference.  At the end of the chapter, the author points out particularly the word "should."  "I should be practicing right now" creates discouragement and guilt.  "If I practiced right now, I would be able to learn some new passages, and I might have a lot of fun" conveys the same general message, but feels uplifting and exciting!  Another way we can speak differently to ourselves involves the F word.......fail.  Instead of telling ourselves that we failed at something, we can ask ourselves what valuable information we gleaned from it instead!  The way we speak to ourselves about our actions makes all the difference.
Key Terms: Should, fail
Key Concepts: If we can making failing as fun as succeeding, learning will be accelerated, and more enjoyable!
Making Connections: This concept of speaking differently to yourself is something I have worked on much over the past 5 years or so.  I can testify it really does make a difference, a measurable, noticeable difference in your quality of life.
