Brooke's SS Chapter 3 Summary-
Breathing is an involuntary thing but we can use it as a tool. It can calm us down, get rid of pain, make us focus and connect s to our souls. Breathing is also vital for singing as all vocal students can attest. What singers have a problem with is getting speaking and breathing to function well with one another. Inhalation should be thought of as an expansion of the abdominal muscles. "To get good, deep breath for singing, we expand the whole lower abdominal region." But not matter how much of a good breath we take it is ineffective if our body is not aligned properly. We as singers should think about releasing breath not so much supporting it. It is when we release the breath that our voice is "in the most natural and authentic" place it can be.
Key Concepts- Breathing and speaking need to function together. Release breath
Key Terms- breathing process, body alignment,
Connections- I have a problem with my breathing. I tend to force it to come out which is what he wanted to avoid by saying don't support your voice but release it. It should be a natural feeling instead of forced.
