Brooke's Partner Practice #2

Brooke's Partner Practice #2
This week with Mariah I worked on Der Jungling . . . I started and instantly stopped myself after the first page knowing it needed a lot of work. Mariah then made me to the rag doll where I am bent all the way over and had me sing it again. This made me pay more attention to my breathing instead of the sound coming out of my mouth. It kind of hit home that, that sound is a result of what my body is doing and so therefore I don't need to force it out. I then told her the singing on the piano bench also did the same thing so we tried that and it definitely made my higher notes much more free.

Then we moved onto one of Mariah's songs. She has a lovely lower tone but her higher notes need work, and I told her so. We then did some of the same things that she did for me. The rag doll really helped. Also we talked about where the sound in her mouth should be. Some things worked and some didn't. It reminded me a little of SOHH because with each different student you have to find different techniques that work for them, and throw out the ones that don't work.
