Amber NV Chapter 1

NV Chapter 1
Summary
Sory it's kind of a list, but that was a lot of stuff!
1. The fundamentals of musical sound are: 1) a generator, 2) a vibrator, 3) a resonator. The two active ingredients in singing: Phonation and airflow.
2. You can have the best instrument in the word and still suck. On the other hand, you can have a pretty lame instrument and yet give a pleasing, inspiring performance because you really know the ins and outs of what to do with that thing.
3. Finding and diagnosing symptoms is not enough. The whole person or instrument must be taken into account s that the root of the whole problem can be dealt with for better lasting results.
4. How we use our instrument is more important that what kind of instrument we have.
5. Out art of song is not a static one; It takes place through time and space as we re-create it each time it is presented.
6. Stop over analyzing and just do it. Be in the moment. If you screw up during a performance the phrase is, “KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON.”... at least for me.
Key concepts: Move through time and space with your song.  Don’t check out and let your training do all the work: be in the moment. Forget the analysis and just sing. Fix the root cause, not just the symptom. Find a groove and flow through it.
Key words: Vulnerability, Spontaneity, creativity, Emotional honesty, Take the trip, Surrender control, Gestalt. Whole self.
Connections:
-What a student can learn to do with their voice is far more important that what kind of voice they have.
-The whole person should be taught to sing, not just the vocal process.
-Students need support to feel brave and fearless enough to “take the trip.”
-I think Ill put a big sign in my future studio that says, "DON'T PANIC"
