VRH Critiques 10/10
Caitlyn Craig-
I like the song you picked. ;) You have a very nice, delicate timbre that can sometimes turn airy. You sang this piece really well. Your diction was good, as was your intonation. I felt like you kept a fairly consistent and tension-less voice until the solala ralala's. Here is where I felt like your neck tightened and you scooped to the notes a lot. The high "a" is totally in your voice and I feel like if you energized the breath and didn't tighten your neck it would come easier. You did a really nice job!
Brooke Myers- You have a very rich timbre and your voice is really pleasant to listen to. I felt like your expression could have been so good if you would just relax a bit. Your movements kind of betrayed you and made you look really nervous. Your arms were stiff and you moved a bit too much which made you seem figity. Practice in the mirror and try to limit your movements and give them more purpose. I also felt like you used your lower jaw a lot. Try not to let it be so involved. Your intonation was good. Your high notes were impressive. Occasionally your voice would get a little fluttery which makes me think you may have some tension somewhere. Overall, a really nice job.
Alyssa Robinson- Okay, the breath seemed to be low because there was a lot of visceral displacement going on. A little further into the song I realized that the displacement was only happening in the front of her body which means her back is probably tight. Also, I think she was pushing the air out because there would be an immediate pushing of her abdomen back in almost as soon as she had breathed. She has a nice, bright timbre but I feel like she is holding her voice in her throat. I had a really hard time understanding what she was saying and her volume was really low. Intonation was a bit iffy in some places. I liked her song and I could tell she liked it. Some of the vowels are wide which makes her sound like a little girl.
Sara Lowe- Beautiful, full timbre. Breath was a bit high and tight this time around. Her voice seemed high in her throat which I think could be solved just by making the breath lower. Her expression in her eyes is always good but she moves her head from side to side which is distracting. I feel like she was "holding" her voice in some places which I think was possibly from tension in the root of the tongue. I think lower, more energized breath would fix most of these problems. Nice work!
