Chapter Summary: We are confused about what is “right” and
“wrong”. As we go through schooling, we are constantly taught different
theories and methods on how to solve one problem. Because of this, we are
trained to conform to other solutions rather than trying to find our own. We
need to find our own truth instead of connecting with someone else’s. Our
students may just want to memorize the rules that we give them but instead, we
should try to encourage our students to make connections of their own. Lets try
to teach our students how to ask questions, explore new material, and open up
to learning.
Key Concept: We should not get caught up in the rights and
wrongs. We should find ways that help us really understand and learn.
Key Term: Truth
Connection: I am so guilty of trying to find the right
answer. Sometimes I am really eager to know what methods work for other people,
that I don’t realize that my learning style may be completely different. I thought
that the comment about learning how to teach by learning how to learn was
interesting. We are all sitting in vocal ped, thinking that we are going to
know how to teach our students. But in actuality, we need to figure out our own
strengths and weakness of how we learn.
