Sarah and Elizabeth Group Practice 10.12.13

So we included Kaylee Ann in our practice session, which just added to the productiveness and ideas!  We started out with dancing!  Sarah and I have been wanting to try Eloise's dancing idea for a while, so we danced to some Barber, Gershiwn, Prokofiev, and some Herbie Hancock!  Kaylee and Sarah seemed to be getting more free and less embarrassed than I was able to.

Then we each took turns singing a phrase of our pieces for each other.  Kaylee was singing "Early in the Morning" by Rorem.  Which I love so much.  She seemed disconnected from the piece, so we tried what Cindy did with Brad, having her sing about her own memories to the melody of the piece.  We found she had a really personal experience with her own coffee shop that could relate to the text of the piece!

I sang a part of my "Lovesong" by Waxman, and through much advice, I realized that I sing better when I just think of the message of the piece.  I was also struggling with the word "how" on a high note, and we all realized that if I just speak it, and then sing it immediately, it finds a good placement!

Sarah sang part of a Handel aria, and her big break-through was that she needs buoyancy in her body to find a higher resonance in her voice.  Also, the idea of using the "n" to open up her resonance from that roof of the mouth place helped a lot.

And then we hugged at the end, because the practice session was so fun and helpful!  I can't wait to do it again!
