Chapter Summary: Letting go can be hard especially if we don't trust ourselves or others to do what we think needs to be done. If I don't trust my voice to sing the way I want it to sing in all circumstances then I can cause the negative effects of micromanagement of our biomechanical processes and become weary doing so. Being a control freak doesn't help release you as a performer and doesn't harbor creativity. Feedback from others is important but it's also important to know that feedback isn't the same as getting a grade and an audition isn't about 'winning' and 'losing' vocally speaking. I loved the idea that results of an audition have little to do with 'real' results, that is that nothing can alter your gains unless you allow someone else's opinions about 'winning or losing' to subvert your growth. It's about experience. "What does your problem buy for you?"
Key Concept: Learn to trust yourself and not be overly controling.
Key Terms: Visualization
Making Connections: The part of the chapter that I felt like hit me was the part about how our problems can be addicting. I've never thought about it that way. I need to explore my own problems and figure out if I identify with them or if I genuinely try to work on them and become better because of them.
