Summary: When we discover the power of mental practice a whole new world will open up to us. Sometimes we focus just on what needs to be fixed in our bodies and never realize that our mind hasn't fully grasped the action we are trying to accomplish. When we practice mentally it serves a similar purpose to when we teach someone something. We have to fill in missing gaps. We have to have a complete understanding of each action we desire to accomplish. After we have the full image in mind and a complete understanding we can take our mental practice a step further. We can feel the slight muscle impulses that occur with movement without actually having any movement happen. This kind of practice hones our coordination and timing (and as a vocalist, our technique) rather than the strength of our muscles.
Key Concept: Mentally practicing helps us fill in gaps in our learning and instruct our bodies more efficiently.
Connections: When you actually try mental practicing it ends up being a lot harder than it sounds. It takes just as much if not more energy than regular practice. It definitely helps to fine tune our muscular responses. I think mental practice is in order this weeks since I have been sick.
