Emily F. partner practice 10/7
Emily F. partner practice 10/7: Taylee and I worked on memorization again. We spoke through texts and gave each other translations. After spending some time on that, we took turns singing. Something I noticed about Taylee was that she seemed concerned about keeping a relaxed jaw, and while it might have felt tight to her, it looked quite released. However, at one point she shook out her shoulders as she sang, and this great sound appeared! It seems like her tension was in her upper back and shoulders rather than her jaw. When I sang, Taylee noted that I was taking good balloon breaths, but I felt like they weren't well supported. She told me that I was doing a lot of work in my jaw, and that I tend to jut my head and/or jaw forward when I sing higher notes. I get a lot of comments about my extraneous jaw movement, so that's obviously something I need to work on. And I wasn't even very nervous this time and didn't notice that I was doing it, so it seems to be a heavily myelinated habit.
