Emily F. ER 12

Emily F. ER 12: We often get caught up in the fact that we have problems, rather than how to solve them. It requires risk to face the mistakes we make and challenge our expectations of ourselves. Sometimes it's scary to give up our problems, because we know what it feels like to function with them. Much of what we do when we sing is fixable, and often we know what is wrong with what we're doing, but it's hard to take the leap required to trust that we can do something different.
Key concept: Problems require change. Change requires courage and trust.
Making connections: Thinking through my problems brought up some interesting ideas. I really do get afraid of success. It would be scary to be a good enough singer to have jobs that would require me to be in front of audiences. Sometimes I'd rather just hide in my basement to watch TV and eat ice cream. I frequently wonder why on earth I am doing this. I can see changes happening in my singing, and it does stretch me. On the other hand, I really do want to get better and be the best I can be. It just isn't comfortable most of the time.
