Emily C.: VRH Chiaro vs. Oscuro 10/24/13

Emily Cottam
10/2413 Voice Recital Hour Critiques
SSS: Simply Speaking Simply
FFA: Free Flowing Air

Elizabeth Tait: Could use some more FFA; I saw some noticeable collapsing after long phrases.
Ben Shaw: More SSS; his diction seemed just a little muddled.
Kaylee Ann Simmons: More SSS for higher resonance--the tone was far back in the throat. There needed to be more release in the neck.
Mandie Stousen: More FFA to help follow through with the phrases.
Laura Wride: More SSS and resonance would be good for this song--it’s difficult with those lower notes. FFA would also be good because phrases die off early.
Brad Summers (for both performances): I think he could use more SSS--he uses a glottal stop to cut off his breath flow at the end of phrases, so freeing up his speech would help.
Bric Slade: He could more SSS--he tends to sing in his throat, so I think untangling his speech would help with resonance as well.
Luke Shepherd: I think he could use some more FFA--his resonance is very good, but if he supplied more airflow, I think it could help him project and resonate at a higher place.
Jaron Putnam: There were some moments when there could have been some more breath support, so I’ll say he needed more FFA on the higher notes.
Kaitlyn Craig (for both): Some more FFA would be good for this song; I would like some more depth and open space in the throat.
Taylee Beckstead: She could take deeper breaths, so more FFA. I also think she could use more back open throat space.
Sam Meredith: He could use more SSS; he seems to be straining his voice on the higher notes. And I think it’d be nice if he raised his eyes up from the ground--it’d help with maintaining good alignment as well.
