10/9/13 Lesson
For this lesson, we started out with our usual warmups with “thee” and relaxed sighing sensations when releasing the breath. We worked on keeping my resonance consistent through the use of vowels sounds--by working our way backwards from the forward vowel “ee,” we shifted slowly between [i], [e], and [a], focusing mainly on keeping the presence of the resonance in the mask area. We also focused on using the “teacher pick me!” sensation when prepping for a breath. On the higher notes, I need to work on the “sobbing” sensation that comes with a complete release of my voice. Also, it helped when Brianna told me to imagine that I had a “frog” throat or a throat that was as wide as my shoulders so I could just easily “fall into” the higher pitch. We worked a little on “Wie Melodien” this week, but there wasn’t much instruction that she gave me--she just told me to keep my vowels pure focus on keeping an open throat sensation as I move through phrases and avoid getting lazy towards the end of my breath.
