Caitlin Craig ER Chapter 15 Summary

Chapter Summary: Improvisation is used in all aspects of our daily lives.  Free improvisation allows us the freedom to never be wrong.  It is a way to explore the uncharted waters.  This uninhibated approach, often gives us new insight into our own performances, a freshness.  It can also be a key exercise in letting go of your inner judges.  Gibberish can be used in the way, to release a level creativity innate in all of us.
Key Terms: improvisation, drum talk
Key Concepts: Drums allow us to communicate in a way that wouldn't necessarily be appropriate in speech.  We can pound out our frustrations or joys on them.
Making Connections: I really enjoyed the improvisation activity we did in class.  I definitely had an apprehensive start, but I found that it allowed a softness and curiosity to enter my mind, enough so that my judges melted away.  I think that doing this with students as a voice teacher might help them get their minds off of singing, and release unwanted tension.
