Ben Shaw 10/10/2013 VRH notes

1. Emily Floyd
2. Breathing: seemingly effortless inhalation; good.
3. Intonation: a bit spoty.
4. Timbre: Dark tone, a bit thin in upper register
5. Diction: Good; I like the rolled "R's"
6. Expressiveness: Good facials. What helps with expression is more dynamic contrast, and a contrast in color/texture of voice.
7. Masterclass: NA
8. Overall: great work. Sometimes, darker vowels have a tendency to block resonate tone; I do that a lot too.

1. Alex Barlow
2. Breathing: bucket
3. Intonation: Good
4. Timbre: clear voice; good sound. A bit thin, however.
5. Diction: good
6. Expression: good performance face. Dynamic contrast would show more investment in the piece.
7. Masterclass: NA
8. Overall: good

1. Hannah Lovato
2. Breath: ballon
3. Intonation: a bit under pitch on sustained notes.
4. Timbre: clear, resonate tone; bright.
5. Diction: good at the start, became weaker.
6. Expressiveness: Great
7. Masterclass: NA
8. Overall: Great.

1. Aubrey Robbins
2. Breathing: worked very hard to inhale.
3. Intonation: be careful of the high sustained notes at the end of stanzas; they have a tendency to be under the pitch.
4. Timbre: clear voice, tight.
5. Diction: Good enough... more diction would be awesome.
6. Expressiveness: Noticeable change in the third verse. Throughout, lighter, more energetic (not necessarily forced or tight) singing will enhance the quality of the piece.
7.  Masterclass: NA
8. Overall: good performance face! You seemed very nervous and tense, however. This stops us as performers from letting the music guide our performance; hinders expression as we think to much about how we are singing.
