NV Chapter 5 Summary
Free flow of air in three phases in order to get the vocalis to release and stop overdoing. Phase one the downward sigh, phase two the siren, and phase three the sigh with the descending five tone scale (after siren-ing up to the top note from the previous exercise. These exercise combine to establish the sensation of the free flow of air and leave behind the sensation of resistance.
Key concepts: 1. It's not how high you get, but how you get high; if you go too high the likelihood of pinching to get the steady sound up there will ruin the whole effect. 2.withotu free flow, we cannot open up to our biggest and most beautiful sounds.
Key words: flute, sigh, falsetto, flow, space, flabby and loose.
Connection: I was introduced to exercises like this at the beginning of the semester to help regulate my inconsistent airflow issues. It is good to have an even deeper understanding to how really important this is.
