SOHH Chapter 6
Summary:
Summary: Every
student is different. Each one struggles with different things in music. We are
all just wired differently. This chapter focuses on the differences between the
skills of Sight reading and memorizing. Some students naturally have a knack for
sight reading, or for memorizing. What can we do to strengthen the weaknesses
of our students? It takes a lot of experimenting. Everyone needs to break down
barriers, but I am not sure what will work for different students. We need to
have the awareness that they can succeed though. We need to realize that they
will succeed. We just have to help them. Juggling was a focus of this chapter.
This was able to help both sight readers, and memorizers. It helped their
ability to recognize patterns or memorize key points that are extra difficult.
Key Concept: Some
have natural tendencies towards memorization, others to sight reading. But We
shouldn't be afraid of either of them. We shouldn't have a mental block in one
area. We can overcome the block if we have it.
Key Terms: Juggling
Memorizing
Sight reading
Making Connections:
This chapter helped me to realize that we need to think outside of the box if
we want to be successful in helping a student overcome a particular challenge.
It may even take something like juggling to help them.
