Jared Daley SOHH Chapter 6
Summary-
Anyone that knows me knows how amazing I am with directions (i'm not). I have a TomTom and my phone constantly guiding me places and i still get lost. I have experienced the sense of jumbled panic described in this chapter. We all have different brains and different things we are going to struggle with. We can't think we are dumb because some people grasp things right away and we don't. Sometimes we must literally turn things on their side to understand them, or I think make them less intimidating. If we don't have a certain orientation to our brain we may need to find a new and creative way to look at things. With a concept we may find completely logical, our students may feel like its completely baffling. I found it so interesting that it was the strangest and most random things that helped out certain students. It rarely was the "logical" solution.
Key Concept - We've heard for years that sometimes we need to take a different approach at something or view it in a different light. We need to take that advice much more seriously and literally.
Connection - sometimes its the strangest imagery that Cindy uses in my lessons that makes me understand what she's talking about. I'm sure with others she can just say it exactly how it is, but My brain requires a unique picture.
