Vocalizations: too-toe, wobble, getting high, primal ah to u (spoken then sung), shi-e-a-o, tongue out ni
Helpful Vocalizations: I liked the warm up we did where I stuck my tongue out, it really helped to release my tongue tension and forced me to create a nice, easy, light sound.
Music worked on: Spanish set and Silent Noon
Take aways: I am not breathing well...this is no surprise to me! What helped me in lessons was to put my hands on Laurie's waist and she would breath with me. We were shocked by the difference in my sound when we did that, it was more open and free! I think that this helped me because I was consciously thinking about my breaths and making them count. I was also singing on the gesture of inhalation better when Laurie and I breathed together. A lot of the pitch problems that I had in my recital preview were rectified by just fixing the breath.
Impact on weekly practice: I need to keep thinking about and finding emotional connections to my pieces. I don't want a boring recital and I want to feel comfortable enough with them to emote. I also need to do a lot of work with breathing and not let myself collapse at the ends of phrases. I need to monitor myself and make sure I am singing on the gesture of the inhale.
Goals for next week: Monitor my breath better by not singing on "bad" breaths. Establish emotional connections to each piece and study the dynamic markings!
