Sam Meredith Rob O Lesson Plan for 3/20

This will be my 5th lesson with Rob. Rob's long term goal is to gain more confidence. My short term goals to be accomplished in this lesson are to help him reduce some of the mental tension that accompanies transitioning into his higher range and to help him understand the process of learning music quickly and effectively. To help ease his anxiety regarding high notes, I want to do some vocalizes with him that will start in a comfortable range and move up slowly. At some point I want to explain to him how minute the movement in the vocal folds is when we change pitch and help him understand that singing a note at or near the top of our range is essentially a mental endeavor--we don't need to do anything extra, we just need to do the same thing we do in our comfortable range and just ask for higher pitch. To help him understand the process of learning music, I want to briefly explain to him the process of chunking. I want to make sure that he understands that it is beneficial to break up a musical task into chunks so we can learn things accurately and in a way that doesn't introduce tension into our singing because we aren't minimizing our level of awareness because we are trying to focus on too many things.
