Why are good singing and good posture strongly interrelated? Posture helps lung capacity, helps the blood regulate, helps with head position, helps us release tension and be confident. It also helps us with fatigue.
What are the basic functions of the skeleton and muscles? To maintain the upright position of the body without an expenditure of excess energy.
What are the adjectives that the author suggests for good posture? buoyant, expansive, erect, alert, free-t-move, vibrant, flexible, poised, tall, loose, free, happy, balanced.
Define tonus: a natural state of slight, continuous tension in muscle tissue which facilitates the bodies response to stimulation.
What is McKinney’s description of good posture?
The feet should be separated, with the weight balanced somewhere between the ball of the foot and the heel. One foot should be slightly forward. The legs should feel as though they could spring into motion at any moment, no locked knees. The hips should be straight, there shouldn't be more weight on one than the other, and the butt should be tucked under a little. Avoid excess tension in the abdomen, particularly the upper region. The back should feel as though it is being stretched up wards (spinal lift) and broadening. The chest should be up and should not move while breathing. The shoulders should be rolled back. The arms fall naturally at the sides. The head is straight and buoyant on the neck, it must not jut forward or tilt back. The idea of standing as tall as possible helps with the head position.
What are the two types of postural faults?
Alignment and tensional faults
Define muscle:
A tissue composed of bundles of elongated cells capable of contraction and relaxation to produce movement in an organ or part.
What is the difference between the origin and insertion of a muscle?
The origin is less movable and therefor the contraction pulls the muscle in toward the origin and away from the insertion point.
In which direction do muscles pull? How many directions do muscles pull?
last question.. ^^^
How do we use muscles to stabilize parts of the body?
Opposing groups of muscles are contracted simultaneously to stabalize part of the body.
What do muscles need in order to work most efficiently?
Rest!
What happens when muscles are held in tension for too long?
They start to shake.
What are the two primary clues to tensional faults?
trembling, rigidity
