Sam Meredith Anna O Lesson Plan 2/13
This is my fourth lesson with Anna. Her long term-goal is to gain more confidence in her singing. My short term goals for this particular lesson are to help her relieve some tension that exists in her jaw and shoulders. I want to give her an experience of what it's like to sing without the larynx relying on tension in those areas. I'm going to do a few exercises at the beginning of the lesson to loosen her jaw. I want to try using the word 'mine' as a vocalize and combine it with an open-mouthed chew to help loosen her jaw. I think I will also do the [nim, nem, nam, nom, num] exercise to help her understand that she doesn't need to drastically change her jaw position for vowel change because I think there is a lot of movement in her jaw when she sings that is unnecessary and eventually causes her to get locked in a fairly closed position especially in her upper range. Next I want to try some more descending scales. I think those were really successful last week for her and I think if I have her do it in the rag doll position it could help her find an easier tone when she sings.
