Taylee Beckstead 01/31/14 Lesson

Last Weeks Goals: Well once again, I did really well on the first two goals and not so awesome on the last one. I did have my aria ready to work on at my lesson, and although I didn't actually pass off the mini aria, I worked on my memory through out the week. I didn't however get a song analysis turned in.

Vocalizes: Brianna told me to focus on a few things throughout the vocalize portion of out lesson: First, the "teacher, teacher, pick me!!" sensation; Second, the "huh" position in the larynx; and finally, the thought of pitch coming to me. During all of the vocalizes, she would remind me to do one or more of those things if I wasn't.

-Descending octave lip trills.

-"Thee" 5-4-3-2-1.  I had some neck and shoulder tension that had to be addressed during these.

-"Thee" descending octave. In between each set/octave, I would tell her something to help encourage speech-like singing. About half way through, I felt just how tight I was, so we took a break and I tried to massage some of the tension out of my neck and jaw.

-Still speaking in-between vocalizes, she had me switch to "thee" on 8-5-3-1.

Song(s) we worked on: Again we worked on my aria. With the opera memory check being much closer than the one for lessons, Brianna wants me to solely focus on that. In my first lesson, Brianna gave me a step-by-step process to learn the melizma parts. As of this lesson, I had successfully learned all the notes involved, but I now need to do them faster. It's good that all the pitches are all recognizable, but right now it doesn't sound glide-y enough.

As I listen to this I'm hearing myself swallow the sound a lot!!! Which means I'm pulling my tongue back and creating LOADS of tension
