Emily C., Amanda G., Lesson Plan for 2/13/14

EDIT: This was supposed to be the lesson plan for 2/18/14, not 2/13/14. I made a mistake and labelled two of my lesson plans for 2/13/14.

Emily C., Amanda G., Lesson Plan for 2/13/14

Plans:
  • Her neck really needs to loosen up. I’m going to have her lay down or sit with the two chairs or something.
  • I want to work on the extended phrases and her breathing technique a little more. Go back to the basics with her again.
  • Primal sound will work well with her I think. I just need to remember to stick it into the lesson.
  • Use more back vowels. Remember that the swoop exercises are best when she isn’t trying too hard. Also, remind her that her child-like voice is lighter than her chest/adult voice (apply to onset of notes).
  • I totally forgot about the “dancing” I mentioned in the previous lesson plan. I think it’ll really help.

Goals:
Short:
  • I want to get her neck/jaw to loosen up. (Make her “mobile” with her singing….)
  • I want to help her recognize that she doesn’t have to push her high notes; she needs to let them out, whether or not they sound as “strong” as the speaking voice.

Long: I would like her to become more sensitive to her music—noticing where the “give and take” moments are in the music so she’s not pushing throughout the entire piece to give it more variability/musical interest as well as make it easier on her voice.
