Sam Meredith OB Ch. 15 Summary

Sam
Chapter 15 Summary-Knowing some of the physical principles regarding sound and sound production can help eliminate unnecessary or damaging technique from our singing voices. For example, it is important to know that the intensity of a note will vary based on the frequency or pitch of the note. Higher pitches are higher frequencies and therefore naturally have greater intensity. So, we don't need to push out our high notes to make them louder because they will already be louder than our other notes just naturally. Understanding resonance can also be helpful. It is important to know that when the mass of the resonator is increased, the resonance increases. Therefore, if we want to have more resonance in our voice we need to feel open and released.
Key Concept-The study of the physics of sound and vocal phonation can greatly inform our practice and our goals as singers.
Key Terms-Frequency, Pitch, Intensity, Decibels, Hertz, Bernoulli Effect, Venturi Effect, Resonance
Making Connections-I think the part about not forcing high notes to be louder was something that will help me a lot. I think I often do too much to control the outcome when I sing higher notes.
