Jaron Putnam Oren Brown Summary Chapter 13

Jaron Putnam Oren Brown Summary Chapter 13

Chapter 13 Summary Oren Brown:

Summary: This chapter focuses on what it takes to have a professional career in singing. Oren Brown presents a list of characteristics needed to be successful in performances. These things are very varied, but all include an attitude that is professional and based on hard work. There were scenarios brought up that talk about singers who have very promising voices, but never make it, and others who don't seem to have anything special, but in reality work really hard, and then have very successful careers. He also discusses the importance of auditions; finding repertoire that fits your voice very well, and working to display a confident but not cocky attitude.

Key Concept: Being a professional singer takes hard work. You can't expect to succeed without paying your dues and working incredibly hard.

Making Connections: While I don't have aspirations to be a full time professional singer, I definitely would enjoy making performing a part of my life. I want to make sure I apply the same sort of ideas to my career as a conductor and performer. I feel like hard work and professionalism are traits that cannot be overlooked.
