Jaron Putnam Oren Brown Summary Chapter 9

Jaron Putnam Oren Brown Summary Chapter 9

Chapter 9 Summary Oren Brown:

Summary: This chapter is all about using your voice carefully, especially helping young singers to not over sing. Those young voices that are "required" to have a sound beyond their years almost all end up ruining their careers as singers because the overuse their voice. Young voices who have not grown through puberty have larynx's that are not fully developed. This is why young kids sound airy and have a thin sound. They literally cannot sing with a full sound with out exerting too much effort and ruining their voices. There are lots of things that are similar to fully developed larynxs. These are the things that need to be worked on with young singers. You must always help them to develop a free and easy tone.

Key Concept: Some things are similar and some things are different when you teach young voices; the important thing is that you help them to sing free and easy! Never strain their voices!

Making Connections: I LOVE the list found on page 93. It is a very clear list of things that you can work on with young singers. If I ever teach younger voices, I will know what to focus on!
