Jaron Putnam Oren Brown Summary Chapter 7

Jaron Putnam Oren Brown Summary Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Summary Oren Brown:

Summary: Agility is compared to athletics in this chapter. Being able to sing fast and high is something that takes a lot of work and practice. Oren Brown used a lot of vocabulary like "nerve endings" or "firing" I thought that we had strayed back into the talent code! He talked about how as we move very quickly through fast moving passages, we need to work enough so that the nerves fire effortlessly and smoothly. Singing fast with a lot of intervals requires complete release in the throat and larynx.

Key Concept: Everything should be free and released! That is the ONLY way we can achieve singing fast passages. Every effort should be made to practice slowly so that you can sing released at faster tempos.

Key Terms: Coloratura

Making Connections: I haven't been required to sing things that are really fast. But I feel like when I do, I will know that the same skills are necessary to sing fast passages. I still need to have a released and free sound.
