Elizabeth Tait Ch 1 Summary

Summary: Talent, in the way we traditionally think of it, is not what makes a skilled performer.  It is practice that involves struggle and failure in a miniature form.  This "deep practice" is described by the author as "operating at the edges of you ability."  A small amount of this deep practice can go a long way.

Key Concepts: Deep practice consists of multiple encounters with failure and subsequent correction in a concentrated time period.

Key Terms:
Deep Practice
"The Sweet Spot"

Making Connections:
This chapter indicates that the only way to achieve success is through failure and struggle.  In my singing and personal life, I would like be less afraid of messing something up before I try it.  Because if I never try it, I'll never achieve success.
